Washington is a state that has recently observed a steep rise in its population which has pushed its health care infrastructure to the limits, triggering urgent need for state of the art medical facilities and research centers. Hence, there have been many new health care centers have come up lately which has led to a demand for good number of certified nurse aides to work in them. However, there has been shortfall of quality nursing assistants as against the volume required leaving many positions lying vacant in urgent need of being filled up. So, many believe Washington to be land of opportunities aplenty. If you also have the desire to make the most of the chance and take your career further the most important thing that you need to do is complete and pass the CNA State Exam.

A person willing to become a certified nursing assistant should be at least 18 years in age and have a high school diploma or a GED degree to his credit. This makes you eligible for getting admission in the state approved nurses training program. The training program lasts for at least 85 hours and is divided into classroom and practical sessions. There is also an extra course of about 7 hours that focuses on HIV/AIDS. The training program is designed such as to impart the students with knowledge on various health care aspects like, hygiene, infection control, personal care, nutrition, fire safety, therapeutic procedures, patient/client rights and patient communication. After the successful completion of the training program the candidate is expected to sit for the competency test that also consists of a written and a practical test. The written part is usually a set of 72 multiple choice questions that has to be answered within a given time frame. As you are done with this part, you are evaluated and if you score sufficiently you are allowed to the next level which is the practical part. In the practical test you are assigned 5 skills related to personal care which has to be performed on a live model before the state examiners who will be keenly watching you as you go about the tasks. Ideally you need to complete all 5 tasks within the specified time of 30 minutes without making an error.

If you get passing grades in both the sections then only you can be allowed a certification degree. However, passing the CNA State Exam shouldn't be that tough on you if you have followed the classroom and practical sessions carefully as the questions are based on all that has been already taught in the training session. You can also refer to the handouts and notebooks besides going for the practice tests that prepare you well for the final tests. It helps you brush up on your speed and also boosts your confidence.

Passing both the sections earns you the nursing certification which subsequently gets you listed and registered on the Washington Nurse Aide Registry. You can then search for jobs and work in not only Washington but any state across the USA. However, if you fail the test you can attempt it for a maximum of three times but if you still don't make it you will have to undertake the entire training program all over again and then sit for the competency test.
